On January 20, 1942, a conference took place in Wannsee, a suburb of Berlin. There all of the parties who were dealing with the "Jewish Question" met under the chairmanship of Heydrich. The conference confirmed many of the measures already underway, but further provided a blueprint for the "Final Solution." Under the plan worked out, Jews from throughout Europe would be moved eastward to Poland. There, a series of death camp were to be established, in which the Jews were to be exterminated. In the meantime, the concentration camp at Auschwitz was to be expanded exponentially, to provide a source of slave labor for the Reich.
